Artist Statement:

Scott Merrick is an Edmonds Washington artist focused on encaustic painting and ceramic scupture.

Merrick’s works are created through a spontaneous experimental process considering, figures,

movement and color. Merrick is mostly self taught but spends time working with other artists in a

shared studio. His works are creative expressions of sports, culture, landscapes and emotions. The artist

process is a playground of imagination to apply his ideas using mediums. His encaustic works are

multilayed translucent ceations using a combination of colored waxs and pastels. His ceramics are a

combination of form and functionality sometimes encorporating encaustic materials as glaze. All of his

works are suggestive, letting the viewer look long and deep to find images that were not there the first

time viewed.
